Take a cross-cultural, visual journey through time to explore how diverse art forms were exchanged and enhanced by their contact with others through an examination of their geographic location on major trading routes and migration paths. Understand how art, architecture, music, dance, and ceremony were impacted by these contacts. Examine the role of multiple, spiritual traditions on diverse art forms and ceremonial expressions. We will explore Tang Dynasty Silk Road contacts in medieval China; ancient classical remains, Byzantine, Islamic, and Norman sites in Sicily; ancient sites in Cyprus and the Turkish coast including Istanbul's heritage; Cuba and its blending of Spanish and African cultures; and finally Santa Fe, New Mexico, with its rich mixture of native peoples, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures.
